Cracking the PLU Code
« on: May 27, 2014, 04:54:18 PM »
Yahoo had a post today about how to know if an item is discounted at several major retailers.
Here is the link
http://finance.yahoo.com/blogs/daily-ticker/secret-price-codes-of-top-retailers-143704248.html

It's source was the I Would Rather Be Shopping blog and here is a link to the post.
http://www.rather-be-shopping.com/blog/2014/03/05/frugal-hack-20-crack-the-produce-sticker-code/

It was worth a look at the post and the blog itself.

Never heard of it before, but perhaps it is 0123456789 since each of the 10 letters are different.

How does that work?

The same idea. They divided the 7 words into ten parts and different letters represented different numbers.

Hey==that's cool.   Sixteen of the 22 letters of the Hebrew alphabet are represented in that possuk.  There are 11 pair of two letters and it works out that you can just leave out the word 'chai' when repeating the possuk to yourself and there would be ten nice units of two letters.  I don't know the code (and don't have time now to figure it out, but I do see there is potential here for code in numbers and a different code for Hebrew letters.  Fun.
