No it wasn't a bad connection. But the ground wires were long and might have popped forward .

Why would ground touching neutral cause the breaker to trip?
When you say breaker you mean the GFCI trips, correct?

Yeah that is annoying. Exactly why I chose to wire my setup in such a convolutes way. I want to be sure that the only places that have GFCI are the kitchen, bathroom, and outdoors

That's by design

Wow, interesting read. Now I wonder if I should eliminate the ground wire from the GFCI since its not needed, and would save space

It is just another layer of protection. I would leave it.

Ouch, now my head is spinning.

It's an arc-fault breaker. Does that help it make more sense? If not, might I still need to be worried? I definitely don't want to end this project until it's 100% sure.

I am just wondering now if the ground wire was hitting the hot terminal on the GFCI.
Either way with the GFCI working and the breaker not tripping you seemed to solved the problem.

Yes, seems to be solved. Is there any way to easily test to ensure no current is flowing when there's nothing plugged in? Always worried that if something isn't done right there's going to be wasted electricity. Is that a legit concern?

I don't think so but that reminds me of a story.
The first house I bought had an outrageous electrical. I called out ComEd. They had me shut everything off and unplug what I could. The meter was still spinning like crazy. The house and heaters in the gutters. The thermal switch shorted and they were on all the time. This was in July.  :-[

Wow. In hindsight any visible clues that the gutters were heated?

Never new they had heaters. If I had known I would have disconnected them after testing them.

When it rained I should have noticed the water boiling in the gutter.

If I need a dc power supply plug for some random device. Something like this

How do I figure out what size tip it needs? The original plug said the output is 12v 1.5amps is there a standard size for that?
My Tapatalk notifications don't always work.

No standard size. You need to get polarity right also. It looks like that kit has it all covered.
ETA: Seems polarity is standard now (99%).

I have a bunch of halogen lights that I would like to change to retrofit led. But I'm a bit lost, the current bulb is connected by pins, what do I need to do to get a retrofit led light to work?

This is what I have:

and I want something like this: https://www.amazon.com/Sunco-Lighting-Recessed-Downlight-Installation/dp/B086Z76QZK/

If it's not free shipping it's not worth it.

Where are the wires going to? 110v source? If so, that is where you would connect the new lights to.

I'm not sure where they are going to but the connectors I see on the led are either the screw in type like a bulb or a connection with a pin that's different from the pin connection I currently have with the halogen bulb.

They are not clear if they are giving you 1 or 2 different connectors. If they only give you the screw type then you would just cut off the screw end (e26 base) and connect those wires to your 110v source. Then just plug the connectors together.
