depend where, depends how long he's been a rabbi.  Size of his family,  what his job is. Just shabbos or classes. ...

Small shul, no real responsibilities.

I find it hard to believe that a small Shul <50 families can afford to give a house.

I work for a shul... Rabbis salary is 60k, no free house, 100 families approx.
Keep in mind this is LA and cost of living is much higher than out of town communities.

if thats his full time job I feel very bad for him--very hard to live like a mentch anywhere for 60k
and wouldnt you want your Rav to at least feel like a mentch while doing his holy work?

I assume he means free use of a house, not that they transfer the deed.

Most rebbeim in schools and yeshivos make less than that.

The caveat worth mentioning here is that many expenses get paid by the shul, including kids tuition. Which, when you add it up, ends up coming out to nearly another 60k...

+1, Most in town Rabbanim have another "job".
