Metropolitan avenue is 1. Union turnpike merges from 1 to three lanes every couple feet where I am, and yet seems to work.
Yes there are bigger streets, such as the queens blvd and the van wyke, but thats the equivalent of me going on ceaderbridge and the GSP, to get to the other side of (NW) Lakewood
When doing carpool on one of the legal Holidays we took hope to Rt 70 to Airport to Cedar Bridge to get to the Cheder.

As I said 400 kids for a tiny space directly on a public blvd. Comparable to the set up the cheder has, its much more complicated.
Really? The cheder is not in a vacuum either. At the same time that the Cheder starts so do 30,000 other kids all around town.

And 65% of public schools in ny start just a few minutes before all the yeshivas.

Anyhow, my point was that if everyone drove like a New Yorker it'll ease the situation a bit. Not saying Lakewood doesn't have a problem with traffic - they do, but I am laying blame on horrible driving skills (I'd say attitudes but that may start a new argument).
I'm not who you think I am.

Surely it makes sense that we should spend millions extra a year of public money because the township was too stupid (or simply too corrupt) to forbid building schools with 3,000 kids on the same block.
Actually a while ago lots of ppl were upset for a while about schools being built all over town, leading for a push to have all or most schools built in a single non-residential and non-commercial area

Where do you think most of Lakewood's drivers learned to drive?

Based on my experience drivers here are horrible (drivers, not people).

No, there is no infrastructure to make it work! It works because people make it work! Because if people didn't make it work you wouldn't be able to live there. Driving in New York is so many more times "seamless" than Lakewood.
Its the drivers, not the infrastructure.

Ooold news...

if it's only 2 miles away, then 2-4 families can carpool each week and finish it in 15 min a day. Places like Baltimore, Los Angeles etc... take over 30-50 min each way sometimes. Hard for both parents to have a FT job. Also, hiring van-drivers for 6 families can be cheap and help with supplemental parnassa.

Keep in mind, with many families having around 3 boys in a school and 3 girls in a school, the max families in the carpool would be around 2 meaning that of the 4 daily trips (boys there/back girls there/back) they would need to do 2. That's just if the kids are in elementary. With a boy and a girl in highschool thats 8 daily trips...

true. I was thinking of that. Local vans and perhaps full-scale school busses via privately owned 'heimish' companies may be the way to go.
(And the lucky 17yr olds with cars can pick up their friends.  8) )

+1
Correct. And it looks like it's about to get much worse with 100's more cars on the roads. Fortunate families who live within 4-6 blocks. Kids can walk.

Looks like the saga is about to end...

http://www.vosizneias.com/242783/2016/07/01/new-jersey-lakewood-bussing-bill-awaits-governor-christies-signature-after-passing-both-houses/

if the community's citizens can look objectively and see that the: "program’s allotment of $884 in transportation costs" is WAY less than the $9-12K that most school districts pay to educate each child in their public school system, then they will be quiet and happy that their fees are so much lower than if all the 18,930 private school students in Lakewood were enrolled into the public school system.
