Not with National.

National has 2 types of "free days":

1) 1-2 Free, those Free days all expired in June.
Can be used by anybody/sold since its a coupon code that you put in online. Valid up to a Full Size (including 1 way rentals).

2) Free days from rentals credits, those expire December 31 after the year they were earned.
Non transferable as they must be booked in the account they were earned. Valid on ANY car size bookable online (including 1 way rentals).

If ever doing a 1 way rental with National Free Days, make sure the rate you picked includes unlimited mileage so you don't get hit with an extra fee at the end.

There are generally 2 rate options available for these rentals, 1 cheaper daily option that has a charge per mile driven, and 1 more expensive option that includes unlimited mileage. Now since the coupon covers the entire daily rate, you can pick the more expensive "all inclusive" option to avoid that charge.

Did national start the rent 2 get 1 free again or not yet?

I just rented for 2 days so got curious again...
When it was around, how did it work, did you have to insert some code into the rental or just after 2 day rental they just send a coupon?

IINM it's starting in August. no code required. if you signed up for it, after the second rental you'll receive an email.

Dont forget, there are other ways to earn free days.

Here's the breakdown of the program:
A) Each qualifying rental earns 300 points.
B) A free day is earned with 600 points.

C) Other ways to earn points, here's some of the ones from last years promo:
1] You are able to get 75 points (can be earned x4) for making a rental using the mobile app.
2] 250 points for pre-paying gas (x1)
3] 250 points for renting from a neighborhood location (x1).
