Vanilla cards have the word "Vanilla" on the front and are backed by Bancorp. Visa gift cards (sold by Staples and many other stores) don't say vanilla and are backed by Metabank. They will work as a debit card to load onto your Bluebird while the Vanilla cards will receive "Tender Not Accepted" as an error message.
