the days of a war IN N OUT in 6 days or  week or two are long gone -- unless you use "all" your weapons and are willing to have many dead solders and even then not doable

True, so far each round had a few surprises from Hamas' side...

If Israel does not use all the fire power they have and worries about world opinion it will be like when --America LOST in Vite-Nam-- because  of this reason --If America conducted the war as they did in W.W. II the outcome would have been Victory  -- America "could have won " hope we do not say the same about today

Not possible for a complete halt to rockets unless they do a full takeover of Gaza

I've come to the conclusion that Israel is gonna lose this war, with their stupid pandering to the international community & stupid ceasefires while hamas laughs & just shoots more & more rockets, when will they realise that whatever they do they will be slammed by the world.
Can't the politicians give the army clear objectives & not leave them in limbo

It'll only be considered a loss if they don't complete their stated goal of destroying all tunnels and demilitarizing Hamas.

They'll never know if they destroy all tunnels, and they have 40k militants so it's nearly impossible to completely demilitarize them.

The loss now is that Israel appears grossly incompetent, that sends a scary message to Hizboallah, Syria, and even Egypt if the Muslim brotherhood recoups.

Imo the only option is to take back gush kattif. Build up communities there, and the idf should feel comfortable enough to walk freely through Gaza streets (at least as they could do in Ramalla).
They should also show the Arabs what a soldier is, and next few times they harass or throw stones, they arrest and or shoot right away, until those kids learn that no messing with them.

Doubt that can be accomplished without a nuclear detonation which would directly hurt affect Israeli territory.

The communities aren't what stops the tunnels. The only ones who don't want Israeli soldiers in Gaza are Hamas and the IDF. The rest of the world (especially Egypt) would be happy if Israel establishes functioning civil institutions.

Israel doesn't have to much time left and they will have to finish very soon, as the pressure from the world to get out will only become stronger with every passing day.
So technically Israel does need a in n out war.

It's simply not possible to destroy these tunnels in six days -- you cannot compare this to the six day war which was relatively simple and straightforward.

Either way it's not a viable option. The communities aren't what stops the tunnels. The only ones who don't want Israeli soldiers in Gaza are Hamas and the IDF. The rest of the world (especially Egypt) would be happy if Israel establishes functioning civil institutions.

They'd be more happy if the occupation ends, and frankly, I don't know how anyone can logically defend the occupation without yielding to the chicken-egg debate as to what came first, terror or the occupation, which is obviously a weak point.

Hopefully the change will be that Israel will realize the status quo cannot go on forever, and will genuinely try to find a solution for the Palestinian population. Personally I think a strong, non US, international force is the best short term solution.
