I assume the point of ignoring is to have less topics pop up when you click "Show unread posts since last visit". But I really don't mind quickly clicking through each board to see if anything that interests me has been talked about.

Eh, you get used to it. If you refresh your browser even just every few hours, there aren't all that many new topics that were discussed. Quickly scan and only click on threads that interest you. For the most part, I personally ignore the Tech Talk board, so that's basically one whole board I skip over. But I don't specifically click "ignore".
