I know I shouldn't be responding, but......
I know a modern orthodox social worker who is involved in the Chasidish community and has many chasidik clients. Many of the women she counsels reference fifty shades of grey and assume she has read it. She would not read it in a million years.
A few points to consider.
1) There is a large range of "Modern Orthodoxy." To paint the girls wearing tefillin in Ramaz/Westchester day school kid telling dirty jokes and the yungeleit learning at YU with the same brush is like painting the pedophiles and the erliche rabbonim with the same brush.
2) While the modern orthodox community is a lot more overtly open to technology and the modern world, if you honestly believe that kids in yeshivish/chassidic communities are sheltered from all this stuff then I have a bridge I'd like to sell you(outside of Sqvar, they have gone to unbelievable measures to cut themselves off from the outside world and have been very successful. But if you think the same can be done in Brooklyn as they can do in nowheresville Monsey...).
3) I haven't (and won't) watch the video in the OP, but I can assure you that frum MO would not approve of such things.
i dont think anyone is disagreeing with any of those points.
Answer for me this one question, which is the point of everyone here, can you picture this happening in any other community besides the mo?
This does NOT mean ALL mo people are painted with the same brush, nor should they be. Neither should all the ultra orthos be painted with the same brush.
The bottom line is the mo are more "modern" (not bad) and its hard to imagine that this would have happened in the ultra ortho areas. NOT That they dont know these jokes or that they would not say them to each other, or enjoy the jokes whilst watching this kid, BUT rather IT IS HARDER TO IMAGINE that they would get up on agt, say these jokes AND have the parents encouraging him on.
Does anyone argue with any of these facts?
