Any theories as to why they did this? I always assumed that they tacitly endorsed mileage selling, since it drove spending and affected the airlines not them. Perhaps the airlines themselves are behind this, as they finally had enough of business travelers buying from brokers?

A few weeks ago I tried to transfer to a different name, and a warning went up that only with matching name. But then it worked. I guess it's over now.

I think its probably just some IT guy wanting to make it easier for the AH not having to enter the name. They probably didnt even realize what they did by taking the option of entering the name away, as officially you can only do matching anyway. Reason I believe that happened, because all old linked accounts still work. They would stop that as well.....

Nah, easier to implement this change than going account by account to review for non-matching.

This is going to boil down to:

1) How long does a AH account take to appear on the system. IIRC it's there even before the card arrives just not sure if instantly after you add AU on phone.

2) Multiple AU's FR risk if all AU's are open at the same time or if open and close AU's same issue.

you can always cancel the additional user even on a platinum card and get back the annual fee within the 60 days of the fee posting

I just experienced this 2 days ago. I though I just got a PIA rep. I wanted to transfer to a budy of mine a 1000 points rep said she can't do it. After transferring me to a manager, I said I never heard of this I just did it 2 days ago. After fighting she said she will make a exception for me but for the future no more transferring to somebody else's name.
