Free bags flying hawaiin, with united points

I have a inter-island flight planned for August. I am using United miles and they put you on flights either with Island Air of Hawaiian Air. Is there anyway to avoid baggage fees for such a flight?

If you have a Hawaiian Airlines Visa card and pay the taxes that way then its possible.

ive had a united card for the last 4 years and canceled recently. NOW i dont have anything!

well yes actually. but instead of sympathy, i'd love to hear any ideas to not pay $150 in baggage fees for a $160 flight.........  :-[

Hawaiian FF members only pay $15 a bag, not $30, so sign up for an account. Also, if the flight is off mainland flights just check the bags all the way through for free

1. This only works on the way to hawaii right? No way to avoid on way back if lets say your doing LIH-HNL-EWR. (i'm asking to confirm)

2. Isn't there a way to book directly with hawaiian using a corp account to avoid fees?

Here goes:

I though the discount for Hawaiian mileage members was only when booking via Hawaiian.
Since i booked via united miles i called to ask them if i would still get discount. They added my Hawaiian mileage number over the phone.

Heres the problem though. Since i booked from LIH straight to EWR on united stopping over in HNL-they side i would be charged full baggage prices like a hawaiian to mainland trip.

1. If i could somehow get united to split the reservation i might save 50 bucks.

2. This exercise might be futile because im going to ask them to interline the baggage anyway.

3. Any ideas or tricks to save at this stage?
