Thanks. Just signed up. Well see if I get a chance to use it this summer.
Q, can I order a taxi for someone else near me ? Or do I have to actually take the ride with them?
You can order for whoever you want, although the beauty of GetTaxi is being able to pay by CC - if you're paying cash, it's cheaper to just order a taxi by phone from one of the Jewish companies. So you probably won't be using it for strangers anyway.
One great use for it (suggested to me by an Arab GetTaxi driver, actually) is getting to the Kosel on Erev Shabbos. Instead of guessing how much money to bring, and putting the change in tzedaka, you simply order a cab using GetTaxi. You leave your phone at home, then when you get to the Kosel, you tell the driver you want to pay with your credit card on file. However, a driver once told me that if you don't use the app to confirm that the taxi arrived (which happens when you order the cab and walk outside to wait for him, without your phone), then GetTaxi may cancel your trip once you're in the way, thinking the driver is lying about picking up his passenger. So... It stands to reason that (even during the week) if you're gonna order a cab for someone else, at least make sure to confirm in the app that the cab picked them up.
