Collection letter - Will they report to the agencies?
« on: July 01, 2014, 04:17:34 PM »
I received a collection letter for an overdue medical bill that I'm going back a forth with my insurance to over.
Should I be concerned that they will report to the credit agencies for a delinquent account? The amount is $380.

What is your question exactly, if overdue medical bills can be reported on your credit report? If so, the answer is yes.

My wife had a doctor bill of less than $70 reported. So your answer is yes.

my sister was told that her hospital "collections" is an internal "collection" and will not be reported...they had made a deal if she paid a certain amount that day it would be settled, then she gets a collection letter...anyone have thoughts on this?

I had a similar story, I told them that I was working with insurance to get it covered and they promised me they would not put it in collection, a few days latter the said collection letter arrives.

Many companies have some sorta internal collections.
Basically they haven't sold off the debt yet but have already marked the account internally as in collections and they'll send you a bill on a different letterhead from their collections department.
Back on topic. Yes they can report a medical bill to the agencies even small bills.
I just helped a friend remove a medical bill collection that was unjustly reported

+1. Always check these things carefully. DH had a collection for $55 that was unsupported. We got the bill settled and $1k after speaking to an attorney who specializes in FDCPA work.

Seems that med bills are easy to dispute due to very strict HIPPA laws

always get everything in writing first. in this case you also want to pay the hospital directly.
