Laptop with High Resolution
« on: November 29, 2010, 12:22:41 PM »
I had a 5 year old Dell Inspiron 9300, 17 in. screen that broke.  The resolution was 1900x1200.  I tried buying another laptop (768 res) but everything looks grainy after the Dell.
Anyone have a suggestion for a sub $1000 laptop with at least 1080 resloution. Blu-Ray drive would be a bonus.
FWIW- watching a bluray on a 768 resolution screen is a waste-you are getting the same quality as a regular DVD.

Did you try just finding a replacement screen?

I'm sorry- I was not clear. The screen was fine- the power port broke and I decided it did not pay to invest $200 to have it fixed.

You can probably get the power port fixed for less (as long as you're sure it's the power port). There are sellers on ebay offering repair for less than $50.

Wow, that was really helpful.  thanks.  I think I'll repair it with the ebay people and keep the 9300.
It is really hard to find that resolution at a normal price!

You're welcome. Just make sure you use a service that's reputable (check the feedback). It's better to pay a few dollars more and know the repair will get done. Also make sure to confirm they repair your specific model before you 'buy' the repair.

I originally got 1080p (1920x1080) for my 13" Vaio Z...what a mistake that was!
I switched it for 1600x900.

If you get 1080p make sure you get something like the OP's 17" laptop.
Save your time, I don't answer PM. Post it in the forum and a dedicated DDF'er will get back to you as soon as possible.

I can't stand those tiny screens with even tinier pixels, you have to squint to see the big fonts, fine print is impossible to read.
