I'm delighted to see this discussion arose just as I happen to be debating between these exact phones.

@Suave can you please clarify, you are happy with the Moto X4, just disappointed with the camera aspect?

It seems that the Moto X4 is a better bet than the G6, but am unsure.

(In case anyone is interested, the Google Project Fi is selling the Moto X4 at $249, and the G6 at $199.
These prices don't show up when you do a Google search for the phone, so unless you actively check the Project Fi webpage, you wouldn't know.
I mention that because everyone else is selling these at a higher price, and unless I'd have read on some review sites about Fi selling them, I'd probably have paid more).

I was thinking of getting The Pixel 1, but I can't seem to justify spending the almost $200 more ($429.99) that B&H is selling it for BNIB,
just to get a [much] better camera and a slightly better CPU. Additionally, the thought that 5G is gonna come out in a year or two doesn't exactly encourage me to go for a high-end phone.
People rave about the motos, including some who (like me) who have been stuck in the Galaxy S series, but who also own a Moto to compare.

I'd appreciate any insight. TIA!
If it we're me I'd get the original Pixel refurb on Amazon for $200.
Camera blows the others out of the water. But depends what your priorities are in a phone.

Project fi phones come unlocked and you could buy them without signing up for project fi?

IINM you're under no obligation to activate the Fi.

I'm always wary of refurb phones. Who guarantees it?

No idea. But it's from Amazon and you can put it on here Starwood. Personally I wouldn't be too worried about it.

My mistake before. At least some phones (like the x4) definitely do require activation to purchase it at the promotional price.
But e.g. for the X4 there's no minimum duration required for activation, so you can activate for 1 day and pay a measly 66 cents (+tax? IDK).

See all the terms HERE.

It is a hard judgement, but I would side with the newer G6 Play.

Really? Only reason I can think of to go that way is if you absolutely need the extra screen real estate.

You're right! That happens when you don't look good enough...

I thought the "amazon version" means the lock screen ads which are annoying (and it does not.) I thought this Moto X4 does not support CDMA and GSM like the G6 Play (It does.)

So i went with the moto x4. Now the question is what's the most durable case for it?

Is the amazon version of the moto x4 only compatible with US carriers?

What did you go with at the end?
Really bad selection of cases for this phone.

He's a reliable YouTube tech reviewer
The #1 in the video title does not refer to his recommendation of 'best'. It refers to #1 best selling. He says pretty clearly at the end of the video (starting around the 9 minute mark) that he's not ready to crown it the 'budget king'. Also note that all these tech reviews skew majorly to the high end. Which is why he puts a $250 device in the budget category.
