Anyone been scuba diving in eilat recently? Going in january and want to make sure that u can still scuba for cheap without certification... Also for a data point, i confirmed that Queen of Sheba Eilat is no longer part of Hilton (thats why there is no availability...)
You can still scuba dive for cheap. It is called an introductory dive and costs 160-220 shekel for about an hour dive of which you are underwater for 35-40 minutes. Make sure to book in advance especially if you are a few people since they need to assign an instructor to every single diver and they may not have enough instructors if you simply show up.

It's very strange that they do that. They have a guy on top of you literally holding you the entire time.

I believe the standard in most of the world requires an intro class in water you can stand in.  This may be their way around that.

How's the Crowne plaza in Eilat? And do they have Shabbos meals?

we are flying straight on Arkia from TLV to Eilat, our flight from EWR is supposed to land at 6:30, with the Arkia flight either at 8:30 or 9:30am (seems to fluctuate back and forth), chances we will make it? anyone had issues with Arkia changing flight times like this?

What options are there for food, if any at the airport in Vienna or Zurich.  Also, options for touring/seeing Meaoras Hamachpela?

we made it with tons of time (BH) since it ended up staying at 9:30 (flight was sold out which was surprising). front desk/security dont even open until 7:30 so if anyone ever does this, stay at Terminal 3 (where there is a lounge/kosher food) rather than running to dingy terminal 1 (a cafe cafe with no hechsher b/c open on shabbos and nothing else). on the plus side, terminal 1 had beautiful little shul.

Garbage!

Stayed there a few times on BRG free nights. The rooms are extremely dated and need big league renovation. The public areas have a very tired feel as well. As many Israeli hotels do, they rent out large blocks of rooms to labor unions for half price or less where people show up with small children and destroy the hotel.

One time we lit a barbecue on the porch that caused tons of smoke and half the hotel guests thought the room was on fire. The Arab night manager almost threw us out of the hotel and asked us incredulously: "this is what you do at a five star hotel?" I had to refrain from laughing in his face for calling it a five star hotel.
By the time we left, we were friends and he was giving us free drinks  ;D

I'm in the Dan Eilat (in a renovated family room, which has a separate small room with 2 beds for kids, and a ridiculous oceanfront balcony and view) and its pretty great. if u can negotiate a discount with them (i got an extra 5% off since the main kids pool/slide is closed for the next couple weeks) and use a citi prestige card for the 4th night free, its a pretty decent value(im paying $350 a night all in for 2 adults 3 kids on b&b). mashgiach is pretty on top of things it seems, and virtually all of breakfast was one mehadrin or another other than a few cheeses. heated pool is a huge plus in the cool weather (most eilat hotels dont really heat unfortunately). special plus is a decently-paced 8am shachris i actually enjoyed a lil bit.

My wife and I are thinking of going to eilat for a few days next week... One of the few places we haven't been in Israel.

Anyone know if there's a way that a frum couple can go snorkeling (scuba diving doesn't work for specific health reasons) and avoid the big pritzus problem?

Is Coral Beach empty right when they open at 9am? Is princess beach (public access all day I think) empty at any hour (even a very early one)? Can I buy or rent gear somewhere to go at a very early hour at an open beach?

Basically... Does anyone have experience doing this?

There's a religious beach in Eilat - it's right by the Jordan border. Haven't been to it myself but presumably you can snorkel there.

Has anyone been to the crowne plaza this month.  I heard they just started renovations so I am a little hesitant to go at this time.  Any thoughts?

I know you can get to the red canyon by bus from Eilat.  Is there any other close place to Eilat that you can get to by bus to hike?
