Thanks! It'd be more helpful if I wanted M&S, not SQ. I guess I can call SQ, but nothing they say over the phone will make much of a difference if it's not in writing somewhere.

I hear that. I guess the take away is that you need something in writing to make sure you get it which is not the best spot to be in right now. Ask if they plan on fixing that or if they plan on just not crediting N. Please let us know.

Gary wrote a about this back in March 2015. He said it SQ credits 100% on all UA classes, yet N class was left out. If I find out anything I'll try to report back.

In the comments to that article, one user says otherwise and Gary doesn't correct him. Wether that means he is right or Gary didn't see it is obviously unclear to me. Just a data point.

I know. I saw that, just didn't know if Gary saw that or not.

Also from FT:

"As for earning miles, you'll have to check the new, post-March award charts with the fare class info you posted above, however, IME, anything in flexi saver (and flexi), their top two fare groups, earn 100% on UA, at least before March they did. In fact, believe that anything that earned 100% on SQ also did (again, before March), on UA (and other partners) and anything earning <100% on SQ earned 0 on UA."

From here

Also here saying it won't.

SQ gives 100% miles for UA S, T, L, K, G fares. I may just not fly UA enough anymore to have N fares on the brain.

Seems like it won't work. Is it even possible for UA to change your fare class? I'm not asking if they will, just if they could.

You could pay for an upgrade.

To W or G class?

From your chart both are 100% to Krisflyer so whichever is cheaper/available I suppose.

CMIIW but according to your chart why not upgrade for 7500 to Y which also gets you 100%?

I didn't know you could even do that. I'll have to look into it.

After calling UA a couple times the unanimous opinion is that you cannot upgrade with miles to another economy fare, just business. They won't charge you a change fee to buy a higher fare class, but I'm not paying $486/person for a measly 2422 SQ miles.

Hmm. Interesting. I wonder what that chart with those economy fare miles upgrades is supposed to be for then.

Not sure. I wanted the rep to look at that page online, but she wouldn't.

I just called cause I was curios myself and she looked at the chart with me and told me that the miles listed there are to upgrade to business/first. She said you can't use miles to upgrade within economy to a different fare but did say that for a change fee ($200) they can change the fare class within economy no questions asked.

I guess its YMMV and DROPR in one.

Yup! Oh well, I'll just get my 600 UA miles out of it.

I have platinum status with United (I fly every week within us and Canada) but find myself flying Air Canada quite often. Im having a hard time deciding which airline i should have my status with, United or Air Canada? any insight would be appreciated.

According to this, you'd earn 200% with M&M and UA.
