CA is perfectly acceptable for redeye. Lie flat beds in 2-2-2 configuration (assuming A330).

We're flying them for a very long haul (~12 hrs) soon and am quite looking forward to it.

Thanks!

Did you see this about CA not always providing KSMLs certain flights?

Which A330? 332 or 333? According to sesatguru 332 is nicer than 333, which I'd be on.

I did not see that, but the CSR did check if "meals were available" on my route (which at the time I thought was odd, but which now makes sense).

What continues to be odd is that the web page states that "Jewish food" is currently unavailable on:

Quote
All domestic flights (including domestic segments of international flights); International routes departing from Saipan, Sapporo, Sendai, South Korea, Jakarta, India, Karachi, Australia, and Yekaterinburg.

However, the CSR confirmed my kosher meals on MEL-PEK-ICN. Maybe the website hasn't been updated... not sure.

Which A330? 332 or 333? According to sesatguru 332 is nicer than 333, which I'd be on.

They're both lie flat, but the 332 is newer, and is also what I'm on.

And, the seats of 80 inches of pitch... compare that to 60 inches on LX J.

I hope for your sake the CSR wasn't mistaken. Maybe she got KSML PEK-ICN, but not MEL-PEK?
Yeah, lucky you on 332. I'm on a 333 with only 58 inches of pitch.  :(

Here's hoping for an equipment change within the next 8 months.

I triple-confirmed with the rep on the phone that it was for both segments, but who knows.

Well it'd be an interesting data point to know what happens. I don't mind as much if I don't get a KSML on a short 6h redeye.

So, if this was your first trip to Asia and your first premium product besides UA J, would you grab CA F JFK-PEK on 748 for the RT since availability is there now, or try to find a different way for one of the legs to try out something else/see a day in another city?
Bump. AJ, can I get your input?

There's no doubt I'd prefer to sample different products on the outbound and inbound.

That said, there is something to be said for being able to lock something down and be able to rest easy--it's just not for me  :)

Haha, good point. I guess it's not for you. Now, I just need to figure out where to go before deciding on booking. You're wife's fantastic TR is definitely helping.

I flew on CA ICN-PEK.
No KSML.

I wonder why they even have such rules? Isn't it discrimination not to offer KSMLs in certain flights?

No. Lack of an accommodation isn't necessarily discrimination.

So you're saying that something about those locations make it too hard for CA to get KSMLs so they don't bother? Or does it have to do with propriety requesting them on those routes? Either way it seems like a very odd policy.

I'm sure it has to do with price and the difficulty of sourcing.

That makes sense from South Korea and Japan, as well as other places, but Australia? Really? There's loads of kosher food there!

BYOK(SML), and then ask for compensation afterward. :)

The subject says it all. Which is a better layout that my kid will be next to my wife or me?
Please no comments about bringing a toddler into F/J.

If you can't get the one of the middle pairs of seats in F on the 777, you'll be better off in J on the A380.
