I have a flight coming up with LX in 'Y'. I want to upgrade and was looking around the Star Alliance partner upgrade charts and it seems that for different legs of my trip I can get better deals with different programs (in my case, ANA and Aeroplan, which I'd transfer to from MR).

Does this make sense, and will it work (upgrading individual legs with different programs)?

You can't use those miles to upgrade Elal flights

Ah, my bad. Still, miles can only be used to upgrade full fare tickets booked in Y,B,M buckets, so it's highly unlikely your ticket will be eligible.

I wrote all the relevant info in my opening sentence... Lol. "I have a flight coming up with LX in 'Y'."

To be fair, most people colloquially use "Y" as representing simply a coach ticket, not necessarily it's technical meaning: a full-fare revenue ticket.

Ah... Didn't know that.

Can someone please try to address my original question? I've never done this before and don't want to loose all my points, or otherwise screwup. Is there anything I'm missing here?

Another question please:

If and when I upgrade, will my fare class also be officially changed so that I accrue more miles from a higher fare class bonus?

Many people would take issue with calling UA F a "real first class."  :D
I totally agree.  Doesn't even come close to business class on most international flights.
I flew UA F on a 767 & I was impressed & comfortable.. Now compared to EK F, CX F & SQ R for example its a joke..
F on UA is a joke compared to any airline. Besides when comparing to LY.
