The service, or maybe a refresh to the hard product.

I flew SA JNB-JFK J on the A340 in January. I didn't respond to you because that is the only premium cabin I've ever flown, and so I have nothing to compare it to. (planning on changing that shortly)

Nothing has changed on the hard product since that review. Based on my many flights in Y on SAA, the soft product is hit and miss. You have some overly friendly and helpful crews, and some which are downright dreadful.

How did you enjoy the hard product in J though? Would it make a difference if it was an all day time flight?

+no YQ. I'd say it's a good value.

I needed that flight specifically, as I had to get to work the next AM. Being able to sleep for hours when I usually can't even get 10 minutes in was incredible. So yes, I enjoyed it. I'm sure a day flight would have a been a drag, but on a flight that long it would be on most airlines. Again, I have nothing to compare to, but I can't imagine any DDFer seeking out SA J, though it can "get the job done" if you need that flight.

Tempting. I see it for the date I need potentially. Hm.

UA 767-400 in F (EWR-HNL). Right now I have seats 1L and 1K reserved. Figured that bulkhead would be good because I'm flying with a lap child (but she'll be too big for a bassinet). Right move or is there a different seat that I should be sitting in instead?

I didn't like that seat, too much noise and light from the galley although iirc Dan had a different experience

Right, that's my dilemma. In general I've heard not to take the first row but remember Dan saying he put his kid to sleep on the floor in front of him.

@MosheD, personally, there's no way I'd fly the EK 777, unless there was no other way. I value the bathroom/shower/bar/lounge too much.

Appreciate the cross thread answer.
As a first timer I'm considering the same. Shower is an experience, and personally I really enjoy bars. Totally dif than having them bring a drink to your seat.
Prob, actually doing EY before EK, but I assume answer is the same

I realize I may get stoned for asking this...

I need to fly TLV-NYC in a few months, and LH F seems like a great choice. I've been doing a lot of thinking, and I'm really curious how much being in F over J adds when you consider that you won't be getting first class food? Especially since I can book a RT in LX J for 105k LH vs 85k for the OW F.. Both will be very comfortable flights, and while LH F looks very nice, it just doesn't seem to have the same "WOW" factor that products like CX or EY have. Part of me wants to be economical and take the round trip (I will also be flying with a lap infant, which I feel goes over better in J rather than F), but then I can't do something exciting for the way back home (I'm hoping CX will have started their HKG-TLV A350 flight by then) when I have someone else flying with my daughter.

Any thoughts?

Can get OW F for 75k SQ.

LX J doesn't come close to LH F

CX and EY don't have the "WOW" factor that LH F has with the FCT.

What does HKG-TLV have to do with NYC-TLV?

Going to book with LH as I have points there already, and it's much cheaper on the infant.

My question is, without special food, what is it more than just a more comfortable chair?

True

LH doen't charge the same 10% that SQ charges?

Why fly J then, just stick to Cattle Class.

Will be 2 awards.

I believe it's just the tax. Some places have said YQ as well, but it still comes out cheaper than 10%.

It's misery vs comfort and enjoyment vs more comfort and enjoyment. I'm just trying to figure out how much more comfort and enjoyment it is. At the end of the day, I'm sure I'm just going to book LH F if it opens up..

That's fine. Even post deval 40k for the OW in J is pretty reasonable in my book.

The same way once you fly J you can't bring yourself to fly Y again, the same is true with F - once you fly F you can't bring yourself to fly J again, it's an entire different experience.

Thanks for the input. I was 99% decided already, just the economical side of me had to ask..

I just hope my daughter (going to fly within 3 days of her turning 2) behaves..
