Why does the fact they there is no available seat to select give you an answer as to why IB is selling J for $2200 RT?

On one of the ways they will downgrade you to economy and give some kind of compensation....

1) just because there are no seats now, doesn't mean there won't be any at check in or assignable by a gate agent.

2) IF and I stress if, they were to not offer you a business class seat in your ticketed day of travel, you'd be entitled to fly a different flight in business.

3) if you were involuntarily downgraded, you get more than "some kind of compensation" according to EU law, making this business fare even cheaper.

KE F LAX-ICN-HKG (Held, pending CX F availability)

SQ R SIN-NRT-LAX (Booked)

This will be my first time in F! Super excited!
So I really messed up with my dates (basically just booked the wrong ones). Luckily I was able to fix it, but now I have a decision to make.

I booked SQ R LAX-NRT-SIN for the outbound.

For the return I have the following options:

1) HKG-HND in CX F, HND-SFO JL (old) F, SFO-LAX AA J
2) HKG-NRT in CX J (angled flat), NRT in JL (new) F
3) HKG-HND in CX F, overnight in Tokyo, NRT-LAX in JL (new) F

Any suggestions? Is it worth an overnight in Tokyo to try both CX F for such a short flight? Should I wait for CX F to open HKG-LAX and skip JL altogether?

We'll, after putting #3 as well as #2 on hold, we've decided to do #3. I heard great things about the PH, and getting there will be super easy from HND. I'd love to do the fish market, so we'll have to convince DW or just go myself.  :)

I'm glad it was such a unanimous decision. That makes my first F time complete: SQ, CX, and JL. KE will have to wait for another time.

Got it. Last time I transited from NRT-HND I took a private bus for ~$32, but I guess public transit is the way to go.

I'd vote for #2. J vs Y.
