What gave you that notion? I haven't flown CX yet but everything I've read has given me the opposite idea.
I always had the impression that Cathay first is above the American first class cabins, but far behind many of the other big airlines like emirates, Singapore, and etihad. Being that I don’t travel often enough I don’t have a bucket list of flying on all premium class cabins of all airlines. It’s not like I most fly cx first. I know they have the most comfortable bed in the sky according to Dan, but that’s not everything about a first class cabin.
Either way I get the impression that most people here would think it’s worth it to go out of my way a bit and go for the first class.

Not worth it unless you aren't expecting to be able to fly F in the near future, in which case I would do it for the experience.

I agree.

While CX has a phenomenal F, their J is also very good - with all premium amenities.
The biggest difference is F has a wider seat.

So don't do it unless you need to check it off the bucket list.

Let’s say it cost me a change fee of $150 per ticket x2 and $250 for points. Not worth it ?

As I said, it depends on your bucket list priorities.
Not a big difference in comfort and you mentioned the F flight is bad timing.
So if I'm an F junkie and never flown CX F, I'd do it. Otherwise, I'd be very happy with J.

Going together with wife in Cathay pacific flight. How much should I give in to go on first class over business class? The flight that has availability in first class is not the preferred timing. A different flight which only has business cabin is better timing and slightly more convenient airport as well.

From what I read, it doesn’t seem as the Cathay first class is a whole different league. Is that right ? Value per point is over a dollar per point in the price difference between business and first class, but who cares ? Also as a couple going together,  isn’t business class more suitable for two to sit next to each other or with first class that can be done as well ?
Id appreciate if someone can shed some light. Thanx.
I enjoyed their J almost as much as other F classes- one of my favorites.
I also almost switched my flight and glad I did not.

Anyone ever fly LH J on the high density A340? Weird to fly on a transatlantic widebody with only 3 rows of J...

In Cathay pacific 777 first class, which seats are better for a couple, 1D and 1K or 2d and 2k ? It shows on expert flyer that it’s close to galley. Is that bothersome ?

Secondly, if I have a first class ticket NYC-HKG-TLV, would I be able to get into HKG first class lounge even though the leg from HKG-TLV is only J class and on a future date ? (Stopover in hkg)

1A and 2A.
“In general I preferred the 747 First Class to the 777.
On the 777 if you’re traveling alone you’ll want to sit in 1A or 2A, and if you’re a couple you’ll want to sit in 1D and 1K or 2D and 2K.”

That’s from ddms! Times have changed ?
 Anyhow 1A is reserved already.
