Great TR. Makes me want to go back. You're lucky you got to see the glass factories. They usually close around now for the summer.
How did you manage to pack for nearly 2 weeks in just 2 carry ons?

I didn't know they close for the summer. I guess we were lucky.

We packed very carefully in two suitcases and 2 backpacks. It really wasn't that hard in the end.

You're welcome.

Great TR!! :D

1. Was this car reserved as an automatic or every fiat 500 in Europe is an automatic?
2. About your flight, just to get it clear.. was your whole journey a total of 80K UA miles?

When you're done with Brazil I'm sure you'll make it to Italy.

Yup soon enough. Only in Brazil a bit more :) now have a few trip reports waiting to write up.

Not every car is automatic. Most are actually manual, but as I didn't want to try learning on a rental car in another country I reserved an automatic.

Yes. It was 50k to Europe and 30k back, so 80k round trip per person.

Good luck with the TRs. I can't wait to read them!

How much did u pay for reserving officially an automatic?
Do u think u can reserve the smallest cheapest car that is manual, ans upon arrival explain them I am an American and have no idea how to drive a manual and they should give me an automatic?

I paid €169.09 for three days. I really only needed a car for 1 or 2 days but it was cheaper to reserve three than 1 or 2.

I did think of that. I actually had both cars reserved, the manual being ~$85 cheaper, but I went with the automatic anyway. I don't think the American excuse would work, especially with the woman who was helping us. She was very serious and typical European in terms of friendliness (IOW, not very friendly).

I had 9.5 hours to work on it on the FRA-YYC flight. I didn't even start writing it on the trip itself, just on the ride back. I understand your trip is longer, but still don't feel under pressure to post it until it works for you.

We were very lucky in the Alps. It was really touch and go most of the time, but at least we didn't have any rain. For what it's worth the forecast called for thunderstorms and showers 80% of the day. Mountain weather is very unpredictable.

Shua, you did an absolutely amazing job on writing your report. An even better job patiently planning the trip in great detail. :)
