Don't be so naive. How often to large aircraft "vanish"?

Plane goes completely off the radar... shot down is the most probably answer.

Which begs the question, why was the transponder off during its flight over most of Ukraine?

How does that make sense? It doesn't even look like the plane was shot down anywhere near the areas of conflict shown on that map.

Big box = area of conflict.

+1.. don't see that anywhere. And, in fact, flightaware uses transponder signals and it tracked it right until it being shot down.
