From this map, seems like they weren't supposed to be flying there in first place

Just because it flew a certain route yesterday, doesn't mean it should be exactly the same today. Varies based on weather and air traffic.

+1.. don't see that anywhere. And, in fact, flightaware uses transponder signals and it tracked it right until it being shot down.
Huh? Am I not reading the map right? The last tracked location is nowhere near the crash sight???

Flightaware doesn't have coverage over Ukraine. Where that picture says "last tracked" might be where FlightAware last has it, but others such as FlightRadar have it over to Donetsk.

Don't be so naive. How often to large aircraft "vanish"?

Plane goes completely off the radar... shot down is the most probably answer.

Yes, I agree. It's definitely more plausible the aircraft was shot down, and was successfully covered up, as opposed to a rogue pilot just switching off the transponder and taking the plane into the ocean.

If I'm naive, you're gullible. Speaking of which, you can wire the $$ from the Brooklyn Bridge to my account ending -4453.

Small box = area of crash.

Big box = area of conflict.

No. Small box is area of lost contact. Big box is area of crash and area of conflict.

I don't think you are reading the map correctly

Huh? Am I not reading the map right? The last tracked location is nowhere near the crash sight???

Doh! I misread.

But then again, here is the data from FlightAware.com and over there it shows up until the location where it crashed...

The last hour of flight is estimated, i don't think they actually tracked it, Maybe only the last ping when it came down?

look here on the bottom of the page, there's an hour gap

CNN says went off route a bit because of weather

Is it just me or should all airlines be avoiding this airspace for the foreseeable future?

Not just me :)

Surely! But I'll need you to first wire $1,000 into my account ending in 3322 to verify that your account is active.  :P

There are some crazy anti-American and anti-semitic comments on that site.

I'm flying Aeroflot through Moscow for Sukkos (JFK->SVO->TLV and vice versa the way back).  The SVO->TLV flight path looks like it goes right over Ukraine and this area.  Any reason to be worried/cancel tix?
