$35 booking fee for El Al flights with AA points

Hi - sorry if this has been asked before.
AA is saying there's no way out of paying $35 per person for booking a points ticket with their points, for an El Al flight, despite the fact that you are NOT able to book those online.

Has anyone been successful in getting them to waive that fee?

Never had any luck.
Standard call in fee for all the airlines which aren't bookable online, including CX.

Just called to book my LY flight that was on hold, she says $13.60 taxes + $35 booking fee.. So I told her that this ticket was not possible to be booked online, so she says ohh you had problems booking online np, so its only $13.60

Well meanwhile, it wasent yet ticketed so no charge at all on my CC, ill confirm it once i see only the taxes charge

The lesson is, always ask. - Expect the worst hope for the best.
It is quite a rarity though. not worth putpac'ing imho..

Is it in the agent who makes the reservation or the one who actually books it? Meaning can i piece together the reservation and then just huca till I find someone to book it without a fee? I had a very complicated itinuary so it would not be worth huca for me If I had to always restart.

if they put it on hold for you you should be able to putpac until you find an agent to book it without the fee.

can't tell, well it take her a while trying to change to a different flight till she came back saying it's not available.
