You'd also be running all kinds of other (albeit unlikely) risks, such as raising flags with the IRS, being investigated for money laundering, who knows...
Would you happen to have any data points where this has happened?

Many places, check your local stores. All the ones I have seen come with a 5 to $6 per 500 card fee. Once the Mint shut down I was left with a couple years of spending in GC's. Square to the rescue!   ;D

This is correct. The 2.75% fee is charged to the merchant not the customer.
In this case, we are the merchant, not the customer. Right?

The holder of the Square account is the merchant. I'm not sure what "Helpme" is trying to add.

My guess is both.

I was trying to clear up the confusion if there was a charge (fee added) to the CC. There is no charge to the CC. The CC would be considered the customer. The 2.75% fee is charged to the merchant, the one who receives the CC. My guess for most of the uses here they are one in the same so it really doesn’t matter.

so if I pick groceries I would pay 2.75% processing fees and get back 6% if I have the blue cash preferred? Is there anyway for AMEX to tell that you're using square?

lechorah yes. Of course they can tell. Question is if amex can tell you're the merchant. Square will block u if u use ur own card a lot so make an AU.
The bigger question is what happens if u charge $100000, on cc's that give enough points to make it worth 2.75%. I know Sq. Audits accts that charge over 1000/wk... Anyone?

If the problem is AMEX being able to tell that you're the merchant just don't be. I'm sure you know someone that would let you use their card for this.

Square will work with Amex GC's. For your second question you should really read Squares T&C's and make your own decision.

Sq T&C state you can't use it for cash advances. Since the card is being charged to obtain cash, I believe this falls under that category
