2 Aeroplan Points Per Dollar
« on: December 02, 2010, 02:37:55 PM »
I've been seeing this around lately. There is a Fidelity Amex (issued by FIA) that allows you to accumulate 2 WorldPoints per dollar. WorldPoints can be converted to Aeroplan at 1:1 ratio, effectively turning every dollar spent on the card into 2 Aeroplan points. And the best part is there is no annual fee. This can be a very lucrative option to accumulate *A points, although Aeroplan is far from the best *A program.

1) It is a very good option. However, as we've seen with other similar points programs, they can be devalued very quickly without much or any previous notice.

2) Aeroplan may not be the best but its definitely up there...

Aeroplan makes me nervous.

They charge hefty surcharges for AC travel and can add them for the entire Star Alliance with the flick of a switch.
Their points have hard expiration dates.

They do have some awesome redemption values but also some horrible ones-like to Israel.  And they are very strict about round-about routings.  They refused to book my Europe trip earlier this year that US ticketed for me.

And besides BOFA can change the ratio at any time as they are apt to do.

Is this still true?
It seems from their award chart that its now 80K to israel.
how are the charges on a star alliance (lets say CO) to israel?

They dropped Star Alliance pricing to Israel significantly since I made that post.  However business and first to Israel remain higher than the other programs.

However they also killed their best point redemption offers in J/F to Europe, Asia, and Austrlia, with awards like F to Asia going from just 120K to a whopping 175K in one fell swoop!

Either way their miles expire every 12 months with no activity and every 7 years no matter what.

They currently only have fuel surcharges if you fly on Air Canada, but that can always change...
