Ok, just want to make sure no one thinks this only happens at FOX.
the following comment by me stirred some strong comments from some members. what is your view of FOX news.
Beyond me how people watch this garbage
https://twitter.com/ericboehlert/status/1361879253046992898Imagine the outcry if NY lost power & Cuomo went on CNN with an elaborate conspiracy how its because of Republicans? Alaska and Denmark have plenty of wind energy. Wind is 1.5 GW under expectations, solar is 1 GW above, nuclear is at 100%, and more than 30 GW of fossil fuel plants are off. Power in Texas is down for one reason and one reason only. For-profit companies have no interest investing big $$$ into weather proofing facilities for extremely rare events and you need government regulation for that. Redundancy from other states would also mean competition and less profits.
You know what? You are absolutely right! I think I'm going to start watching Don Lemon instead...
This shows a lack of understanding of energy regulation. It was actually regulatory price limits that caused this. This was discussed by ERCOT over the week. Each ISO has a different methodology to incentivize peaker generation. The methodology in TX has been from the most successful mainly by using free-market principles while keeping energy prices from the lowest in the country if not the absolute lowest. It is the limits on those which caused this.
I didn't say he's better, CNN is pathetic.Meh. The same storm passed over New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Arkansas who didn't suffer any power outages. This is a Texas made problem because weatherizing production is expensive and they chose to skip it. Rick Perry is still saying it was worth it.
I don't know enough about energy in Texas to give an opinion on that part.
