Another tip: don't leave your computer on / the device powered on when you're not using the computer. You never know when it will decide to download updates or something, and use your whole month's internet in one shot.

If you never know when your computer is downloading updates, you will not know even if you are actively using it. It's best to be deliberate about what software you allow to connect to the internet and use software to control this.

There are some router models that have a USB port to which you can connect a cellular modem that serves as a backup when the regular broadband connection is down. Perhaps this would work if you plugged it into the USB port of such a router.

You can be as many people's buddys as you want and they each get 50MB. On SD, there was a thread with a long list of email addresses. You could copy the whole list and paste it in the invite by email field. Within a few hours, you will have 10 friends.

Not sure if this is allowed, (feel free to take down if not), but if you want an extra 500MB, invite the entire list of emails from the SD Wiki, and you will max out your bonus in a few hours (after you accept all of the buddy requests).
