If memory serves me right it should take around 3 to 4 hours (I took a tour guide)
The kosher cafe wasn't open until late when I was there Friday, but the kosher grocery was open very late in the afternoon. If that helps

Thanks. Do you remember how much you paid for the tour?

I paid a lot around 400 pounds! Including tip. But I had him from the morning he picked me up from the hotel and dropped me of at the airport, and I would probably take him again.
I mention his name up the thread

Assuming that we just want to do the Rock ourselves, has anyone here gone down through the Nature Preserve and stopped at the various sites (like the Apes Den and St. Michael's cave) on the way down? About how long does it take.

Also, any update on the kosher situation in GIB? I know @Yehuda tried to eat at the "not really kosher" place from Google, but besides that, where's the best place to pick up lunch on Friday? We'll be coming from SVQ.
We did the rock ourselves. Cable car up. Walk down.  Took about 4 hours to get down at a very leisurely pace stopping at the den and the cave. Cave is very cool. Better be in good shape too. My legs were killing me for 2 days after the walk down.
The bakery and the milchig place might be the only places open Friday. bakery has since moved not sure where. I think to where the milchig place is or closer to the main streets. Easier to email them to find out. Just they take a while to geT back to you. All in all it's an amazing place especially if you get to eat by a local family for shabbos.

Has anyone stayed in the Sunborn Gibralter? It apparently a cruise ship hotel and they claim to be 5 stars. I'm going for Shabbos in mid August and I'm on the fence between the Sunborn and the Eliott. (The Eliott has not received the best reviews on either the GIB or Spain forums).

I've seen the Sunborn, but have not been inside. Not sure if there are issues with getting on/off the boat on Shabbos - ask your Rav.

Maybe not the best idea if you get sea sick. Also it's outside of the eruv.

I was on the sunborn and it was very cool. However it can get very noisy due to the casino and the local nightlife and people book parties in your the ballrooms. Personally I thought being closer in town and seeing shabbos locally coming out of Shul was a highlight. It's only a 10 maybe 20 minute walk from the main town streets near shuls etc..

We just got back from our Spain/Gibraltar trip and we had a great experience at the Sunborn. We didn't experience any sea sickness as the ship was moored (GIB paid 30 Million Pounds for the mooring) and it does not move at all. In terms of the Eruv, someone from GIB called the Rabbi for us and he said that Ocean Village including the Sunborn is currently part of the Eruv.

Glad to hear you didn't get sea sick. We didn't even visit the Sunborn, as it was so hot and humid we had to stop out shabbos walk at the northern wall. I also wasn't aware it was included in the eruv, but those are both good things to know. Did you want to add them to the wiki?

How far was the walk from Sunborn to Shul?

I can't imagine it's more than 20 minutes.

Hello All,

Is there a way to eat at a restaurant in GIB - like in Athens for Shabbos or is it all community people? My DW likes the privacy and was wondering? Otherwise, I can get food at the stores - correct? Looks like there are a few places.

Sadly, http://www.jewishgibraltar.com/ looks down for now.

Cafe Amar isn't open on Shabbos from what I remember.

If you showed up at shul you'd probably get invited out. I got 2 or 3 invites Friday night and 1 or 2 shabbos day even though we had a place.

The website is working for me.

How long does it take from getting dropped off by a taxi by the border of GIB till I will be in the Jewish community?
