Can someone explain why planes seem to fly such weird routes?
In the link below, you can see for example that all nyc- tlv flights, fly way north over Canada, and then finally start to head southward in middle of the Atlantic? Wouldn't it make more sense to just depart nyc and head straight East instead of making this huge circular Northern trip?
