Residence Inn Surfside - CLOSED

We had a vacation planned at the Residence Inn Surfside for next week. We got a confirmation email this morning. However, friends who are also supposed to stay there called to tell us that the hotel is closed. There is an alert on the hotel homepage that it is closed till February 1, but no other communication.

I called Marriott multiple times (HUCA) and the best they could do was put us up at another Residence Inn in Aventura.  I told them I needed to be walking distance to Surfside and they said there is nothing they could do.

Just wanted to give everyone a heads up, as I am sure there are others planning to stay there over the next 1.5 months.

Oh, I was wondering what happened. Was checking dates and noticed nothing in the next couple of months. Started about a week or two ago.

If you get walked without prior notice they are supposed to give you something in the area.

I booked back in August. They closed on December 14 due to "flooding". When I called the Marriott reservation number, they told me that legally the hotel has up to 48 hours before the reservation to cancel on us.  We found out by pure luck! There are comments online about people who were staying there who were kicked out with no other accommodations and people who showed up just to be told it was closed and no help offered.

I am sure there are many DD followers who are planning to stay there over the coming Month.  I really hope no one else is messed over.
