PHL- VCE - ZRH - TLV - PHL
« on: December 05, 2010, 08:59:16 PM »
Want to go to Israel and try to knock off Zurich and Venice on the way over (or back). I see US flies PHL to Venice and then I'm assuming I can take Swiss to Zurich and continue to E"Y. Didn't see anything very direct from NYC. Is that my best option (assuming availability)? How much more will the second stop over cost me in mileage if over 24 hours? Maybe I should just keep it under 24. I would be doind this on US mileage and would hope to go business. TKS.

One stop can be as long as you want and the other needs to be under 24 hours.
I would do a shabbos in VCE and spend 22 hours in ZRH.
Save your time, I don't answer PM. Post it in the forum and a dedicated DDF'er will get back to you as soon as possible.

Thanks. Saving Shabbos for E"Y, so will try to make a run for both mid week.

Is that my best flight route (most unnecessary stopovers)?

I see that US direct is seasonal and only goes direct to Venice after May.

Try to arriving in the morning in ZRH and leaving by night, unless chuchem sets you up, or like others, who need to test drive the local hotels.

I might need to tone this trip down and cut out TLV. Can I still do stopover in another European city. How many US miles do I need for business award?

I have a 3 day hold on JFK-VCE via Frankfurt on Lufthansa business class with US miles. I would have loves to do Swiss Business but no availability for a while. Will be a first on that A380. Just a few ignorant questions:

1)Can I eat the "Kosher" food on Lufthansa (I won't recognize a German hechsher if it's good) ?

2)Should I wear a casket (hat) on my head while in (both in Franfurt and Venice) to avoid any potential Anti Semitism or just inferior treatment? I can't see the yarmulke doing wonders while I'm asking for an upgrade at the Westin........or they know it anyways so no point?

VCE and FRA are no problem.
Westin I don't know.

Hechsher should be ok, as long as you see the mehadrin and its double wrapped untampered.
Some people ta'ane that the LH mehadrin (from a frankfurt restaurant) is a bit shvacher then you'd expect from european mehadrin. Its just a shmu'a, I have no solid info.

LH is notoriously bad about tampering with kosher food in F (LX is much better for example). Tell them beforehand to serve it to you wrapped!

This article is outdated.

I find it generally a chutspa that non-cholov yisroel is served, especially on transatlantic flights, where maybe 50% would only/prefer to eat cholov yisroel.

Is this Rabbi Menachem Halevi Klein of Frankfurt still the man I have to determine to be legit for Lufthansa? How would I determine that? JFK outbound would be no big deal because plenty of food from home. But on the return home, I'm sure we wouldn't mind a "decent airline" meal after 3 days in Venice with one restaurant.

VCE had at least 3 kosher restaurants when I was there in May.
Both Chabad eateries (meat and pizza+bakery) were very good.

Hunger is the best spice.

Gamgam is good, the others ok.

I'm just happy to have something besides for preservatives when traveling.

GamGam really depends what you get.  Some dishes are great, others arent only OK.

Howveer the Pizza at GamGam treats was very good and the bakery stuff (like caramel hamentashen and chocolate danishes) were absolutely out of this world!  They also have local stuff like Granita and Gelato.
And don't miss getting drinks at Frulala in Venice which is also amazing!

Granita and Gelato is at Chabad's Gam Gam Treats.

Frulala has no hechsher, ask your LOR about fruit smoothie places.
