Not sure how far out you want to go but there is a place about 3 hrs from scranton called cherry springs state park known as one of the best places in northeast to stargaze

+1. Made #10 on this list, which is pretty impressive considering the remote nature of most of the others on the list.

Some would argue for Atacama Desert, home of all the latest and greatest in astronomy's most expensive toys.
