The federal goverment charges $1.01 tax per pack included in price plus every state charges an additional tax Nj is $2.70 Missouri charges 17 cents a pack which btw is the lowest in the nation. So even if they charged a penny a pack in Missouri it would cost $1.19 plus sales tax Nj $3.72 New York $5.37 and in NYC IF THEY WOULD SELL A PACK FOR A PENNY YOU WOULD PAY $6.86 IN TAXES PLUS SALES TAX  http://www.tobaccofreekids.org/research/factsheets/pdf/0097.pdf

Somebody called me yesterday and told me that he bought 8 packs and handed the guy a 5 dollar bill and got a dollar and change back.

The requirments are just that the store pay the taxes but after that is paid they can give them out for free for all the government cares. CVS is trying to rid itself of their warehouse stock before they stop selling so they dont care to lose money on it.

I saw a pic of the receipt stating .43 and .53 cents a pack for non menthol and menthol respectively. Plus I know this to be true bc I have made plenty of purchases in countless number of CVS over the past few months and they were on clearance but every state and day shows different prices so you just gotta find the amazing ones.
