Will transferring Marriott points to UA extend the life of my Marriott points?

To answer my own Q; Transferring to airlines will extend the life of your Marriot points.

:-[ Embarrassing mistake but...

Relatively large US account which converted to AA. I never linked it to another AA account. I look now, it's at 0.
how long ago would the 18 months have hit? within the last 2-3 months?

What's my best bet now? IF I merge accounts now (with another account that stayed active) would that past activity "bring back" the old miles? Or should I just go the car rental route? (can someone link to that thread?)
Do I need to pay AA the $600 to get them reinstated?

I think I got it but just to confirm,
There is no way to extend FB miles other than booking and flying on a paid skyteam flight?  Is that correct?
TIA.
