It works like this. Each day, one time per day of chanukah, one free donut per member of the family, not all members need to come, no purchase necesary!

last year they gave out 24,000 donuts, this year they're trying to do more.
i wish i knew what i was doing...

So what are you guys doing?

Taking turns around the clock?

Every 30 mins another member of the family goes there?

The rule is per person per day, no matter who picks it up.
Westgate alone has close to 750 FAMILIES, and if you average 4 kids (its prob more) thats almost 5000 people...

Assuming everyone comes in every day to get free doughnuts.

if everyone would come in every day that would be 35000 donuts. so it doesn't assume that. there are also lots of people who shop at kosher west who don't live in westgate.
but if what you meant was that people don't go to a supermarket every day, kosher west is not more than a 5 minute walk from any place in westgate so some people do go every day, and the owner is even encouraging it!
i wish i knew what i was doing...

Of course. Get a free doughnut and spend an average of $10. With an 100% margin, he's making money and building goodwill at the same time :D

So cynical... There's no purchase necesary, and you can send a kid in without any money to pick them up & it's totally ok. there's no way an average of $10 is spent per donut, you're just speculating incorrectly..

I'm just taking the other extreme, you're speculating too, just trying to get balance here.

not really, as i posted previously, they advertised that last year they gave out 24,000 and want to do more this year.

according to you that would mean a quarter of a million dollars in sales just on channuka last year.
i wish i knew what i was doing...

They're not doing it out of the goodness of their heart.
Obviously:
-It draws people into the store.
-It creates goodwill for the store.
-It generates free advertising for the store.

There's nothing cynical about that.  It's just smart business.  Same reason AMEX is giving away free money.  They made a business decision that this is a wise way to spend $7.5M on marketing and free advertising for their brand.
Save your time, I don't answer PM. Post it in the forum and a dedicated DDF'er will get back to you as soon as possible.

All true. but assuming 10 dollars per free donut is a stretch.

You don't think a supermarket giving away free doughnuts for a week grosses $250,000? I don't know this particular location (size, traffic, market dominance etc.), but comparing to the supermarkets in Brooklyn, $250,000 over Chanukah is a conservative estimate.
