Guys, stop roasting me. Yes, I did have an opportunity to take Qantas F. But it would not have gotten me to YYZ in time. I had an engagement in YYZ last night that had been booked for over a year. The Qantas flight would have made me miss that engagement. So if I klap al chet it is for not missing an event where it would have been very much noticed were I to have been missing, v'da"l.

Dan, it was so stressful. I flew into MEL and started working straight away for 8 days non-stop. I was out of my mind exhausted. Then I finish up in MEL and have to race to the engagement in YYZ.

I'm at MEL on Tuesday morning Australian time and I'm sitting in UA lounge and they keep delaying my flight. Then they finally cancel it once there are no more flights out from MEL to North America that day.

As it is, I got to YYZ BARELY in time to shower and change and show up for the event on time, and that was ONLY shayach because I had already cleared Canadian immigration that morning in YVR. If I would have had to connect in the US and then fly to YYZ, I would have never made it.

This whole ordeal occurred during the witching hours in American time so I don't think I would have gotten so much help.

Anyway, next time, fine I will post on DDF just to be "yotzei" the inyan.

So what kind of compensation do I get from UA? I was gonna ask for the 10k mile difference back. I didn't think I could get more.

You should get more than 10k compensation.
In addition, chk to see if Australia has any legally mandatory requirements for the airline to pay you (similar to Europe).

A politely worded email to UA wouldn't hurt you. You can emphasize your many hours of delays and downgrading from F to J. If they didn't offer you QF F then you can point that out as well, even though taking it would not have gotten you to YYZ on time.

Screaming and shouting won't get you more, it just might get you less. It can be strongly worded and polite at the same time.
