LHR->JTR BA J for 22,500 AA + $83.

Put it on hold for 5 days and tried canceling and rebooking to combine with USA->LHR flight but it disappeared. Hoping it will come back in a few days.

is it worth using miles for the nas departure given the taxes? i usually buy the ny dep with points and the 5.60 and then pay cash (and of course get x points for the ticket on the cc or chase travel portal 1.25/1.5 or even amex with 35% back on pref airline

It's a good shaila.

Ultimately, I highly value the ability to book multiple flights and have free cancellation. (Indeed, had I booked cash originally, I'd have substantially overpaid: the DL flights were originally $2200, and now can be booked for $1718. With point, I just rebooked from 101K to 71.4K.)

And at the end of the day, I am still getting 1.3cpm on the DL and 1.4 on the UA (neither of which I had to xfer in, so my opportunity cost isn't 1.5 (CSR) or 1.54 (BP 35%).

i get it but arent you also paying some $800+ in taxes ($118*7)? if you can use points to cover that through the portals and also earn points for the flights or even pay cash and earn points, cant you change most flights without penalty?

This was my thought as well and I usually book points to NAS and cash or bank points on the way back.

I guess if I didn't want to part with the $700 in cash, there would be a benefit to using miles for the whole thing, but even paying those taxes, though, I'm still getting 1.4cpp (vs 1.5 or 1.54), so paying a tenth of a penny for the insurance of being able to (i) book multiple flights, and (ii) being able to rebook without having to deal and be stuck with expiring airlines credits is worth it -- to me.

(I figure the haircut I'd have to take from either the credit expiring useless, or for selling at a discount, just about offsets any miles I'd earn on a revenue booking.)

Yeshiva week at Baha Mar?

Would never go there during Yeshiva week. I'm not a masochist.
