The internet was waiting one year for you to do it. Today, they gave up.

JFK - LAX AA Y
LAX - JFK AA J

14.5k TY points roundtrip.

Booked a while back, original routing was Y both ways LGA-DFW-LAX-DFW-LGA. Had some minor schedule changes, so was able to switch it to current routing.

You booked Y and they rebooked you in J?

They rebooked in full fare class Y for return, which is upgradable for +5,000 miles to J. -~5,000 miles earned.

ORD-HKG CX J booked for 50K AS x2 pax
will add on HKG-SYD in CX J for additional 10K AS per pax when it opens up
SYD-MEL is ~$100/pax for flight in Y, only 1.5 hrs no biggy.
Am considering adding on AKL while down there.
also held MEL-AUH EY F A380 for 2 pax today, will use 60K AA ea. Waiting for some SPG transfers to go through to AA.

I'm almost out of miles. Any good ideas to get back home? AUH-something-NYC/ORD?

Plenty of time to accumulate more miles.

Maybe fly back on EK from DXB.

Random thing I realized: since I am going around the world going west instead of going east, I gain significantly more time to do things.

True.. although my credit is pretty bad now, made some dumb mistakes, so will have to wait bunch of months to do anything...

But thanks!!

You will be away for 7 days and not counting travel. You may have more time, but "significant" may be pushing it.

What exactly do you plan on doing in MEL, SYD and AKL? IMO you won't have time for more than SYD, maybe, maybe MEL too, but definitely not AKL. Plus it'll be the middle of winter, so kind of rainy and cool.

Thanks for the advice...
I also plan on doing HKG for 1-2 days.
If I add in AKL, I will lengthen the trip...  Not planning on doing much in MEL except the Jewish community and flying to AUH on A380...
and trip is longer than a week, from leaving USA till leaving Australia is a week

1. I haven't been to NZ, but if you're going to add on AKL and not see anywhere else in the country I don't think there's a point in going.
2. You're going to MEL and not driving the GOR?! :o
3. I meant 2 full weeks on the ground in Australia, not 2 weeks away.

1. Good point about NZ. Will look into my options
2. I didn't even know what GOR was till you mentioned it. Just googled it. Looks cool
Thanks

Most people say you should take 2 days to do the GOR, but we did it in one long day (about 10 hours) from MEL to the 12 Apostles and back via the inland route. Ask in the MEL thread for more info.
