How I wish I would be able to "work" on the road or at least not have a set amount of days for vacation. I can't seem to squeeze out more then July 19th departure - July 28th return. This is awful!

11 days is a nice vacation!

I am counting 10 full days. And its gonna be a good 2 days of travel. Thinking of maybe just skipping HKG completely (would have been <24 hours anyways) in order to maximize Thailand. Haven't been to that side of the world yet so figured I want to take advantage but don't know if its really worth it considering that I am limited in days. Thoughts?

10 days on the ground is enough for both HKG and CNX and USM/HKT:

I think i did it even shorter. Will you wish you had more time? Yes, but there are always other trips.

Just added another leg.

Too bad you can't add a stop with AA and stop in JNB along the way to CPT.

You think I haven't read that already :)

Its actually 8 full days on the ground if you deduct the 2 days of travel. It would be landing at 2pm in HKG in order to leave to BKK at 12pm the next day. Enough to cover some stuff in HKG and eat Vietnamese rice?

As I am now officially taking over this thread we are moving on to my next deliberation, the return!

There are options with each having its own pros and cons. I am not so familiar so would appreciate the help.

Green: CX J (currently only J available) on the 77W.

Pro: taking advantage before the deval once more. Con: Taking them on the way there already.

Purple: KE F on the A380.

Its during peak season and will run 142.5k + ~$200 p/p instead of otherwise 95k. :(

Red: TG F on the A380 to NRT (~6hrs) and 77W on ANA for 130k + ~$50 p/p

The connection is 55 minutes in NRT.

Red.

KE will almost always have award space for your next trip. Go with the other option.

If you have availability for 2 on TG+NH, I'd do that.

Looks like there were some changes since I arrived at home.

When I checked back for BKK-NRT-JFK I now noticed that TG is J and not F on the A380. Not sure if those 2 seats could have actually been snagged up for my dates in the last few hours or if I misread it earlier (weird, I was really sure it was F on both parts). Does that change anything in regards to which route y'all would pick?

BKK-CDG is open on the A380 for TG F but nothing from there to the US. (Unless I'd want to look into AF J?!) It just seems that people really enjoy BKK ground service on TG so it seems like the best way to go but is ground service as good when flying J (via NRT)? Probably not.

[Separate note: Would BKK-CDG (TG F)-FRA-JFK (LH F) be an option -as 1 award!!-  if I could piece it together myself? Or is that useless as it would come up on UA's search under BKK-JFK if all the legs were available?]

Another (very strange) thing I noticed in regards to KE F is that when I looked at departing on KE vs returning, I could actually do JFK-ICN-CNX for 95k. When searching CNX-ICN-JFK it prices out at 142.5k (I first thought it was peak vs off-peak but even when searching on the same date this discrepancy occurs). That made me think to maybe depart via KE F and return via CX F until I looked at award space for CX coming back and currently there is not a glimmer of hope for that scenario.

What to do, what to do...

Work hard, Play harder!

Return EK J, BKK-DXB, DXB-JFK in F.
Timing ain't the greatest on both segments. I'm hoping award space opens up for the times i need.

KE has different peak seasons for each direction. Did you check the correct chart?

Not in the slightest.

There's about a .000000000001% chance UA.bomb will show that online, search each leg separately and you can piece it together on the phone as 1 award.
