Option 2.

An extra leg and wasting all that time in BKK is ridiculous, and a 1:35 connection in HKG isn't tight at all.

Argh! Why do I listen to y'all!

Now I feel like anything other then flying TG F on the return would just be wrong wrong wrong! And the only route making sense that is currently available is BKK-CDG. And from CDG the only thing I could piece together into a UA itin (I believe) is LH F.

AJK, Is this why you spent so much time on the phone with UA while in CNX? You had to piece together a return that didn't fully exist yet at the time?

TG F opens up 3-4 weeks out and LH F 2 weeks out. You have plenty of time.

Seems like I'm in the minority here but I don't enjoy the planning at all. Find it to be a PITA.

IIRC, after reviewing my emails, this is how it went down:

1) I booked BKK-CDG in TG F online.
2) I PUTPAC and made it BKK-CDG-FRA-ORD-EWR, adding LH F and UA J.
3) I added USM-BKK (with a stopover for shabbas in BKK ;))
4) Then I changed from USM // BKK-CDG-FRA (overnight) FRA-ORD-EWR which I found out was going to be on the old 747 to USM//BKK-CDG-FRA-MUC-EWR getting rid of overnight and which was going to be a new A340.
5) Then I changed to USM//BKK-CDG-FRA-ORD (overnight) ORD-EWR.
6) Then in FRA, when I found out FRA-ORD was going to be the old F, I changed final segments to FRA-MUC-BOS-LGA to get new F and a cabin to ourselves.

Gosh I was insane in my younger years.

Disclaimer: The numbers I am mentioning are correlating to today's UA chart.

Quote
1) I booked BKK-CDG in TG F online.
So far so good. Easy enough. Should be 115k
Quote
2) I PUTPAC and made it BKK-CDG-FRA-ORD-EWR, adding LH F and UA J.
Ok. So did that make it be 130k? Also, did they charge you $75 p/p for calling it in?
Quote
3) I added USM-BKK (with a stopover for shabbas in BKK ;))
How did you manage to get a stopover on a OW that was longer then 24hrs? (I assume that is what the *wink* is for? :) )

4) Then I changed from USM // BKK-CDG-FRA (overnight) FRA-ORD-EWR which I found out was going to be on the old 747 to USM//BKK-CDG-FRA-MUC-EWR getting rid of overnight and which was going to be a new A340.

C'mon! I know, you know, the entire world knows that you'd do it the same way over again!

----------------------------------------
Now to my question:

I tried testing this out for today's date. As several flights are available so I can play around with the multi city booking. I tried doing USM-BKK-CDG-JFK (via FRA) where only CDG-FRA-JFK is in F and the rest in Y. I would expect it to come out to 130k total but instead it priced out as 165k (55k for Y Asia-Europe and 110k for Europe-US in F).

Does multi city not price as one award online? Does the beginning of the journey have to be in the highest class? It is only 3 connections which should be permitted on OW. Pointers appreciated.

They *may* have changed their routing rules in the last 2-3 years. I vaguely recall something like that, but then again, any routing/price combo is possible with UA, including stops on one-ways :P

To you last questions: Multicities are notoriously difficult on UA.bomb, definitely better to PUTPAC. No. You mean connections, and yes, that also may have technically changed.
