I always book my flights less then 24 hours before departure.
That's too close for my comfort.

Well further out then 24 hrs would mean he would be sitting in economy and that's also to close (to the next person ) for comfort

I don't mean not switching to F last minute, but I'd need a backup plan in case F didn't open up.

Now this is a redemption. Found on FT using the old US Air chart:

Quote from: happyland;25896804
Finally wrapping up my final US Airways award in F - the gift that keeps giving with each call to the EXP desk:
JFK-LHR on AA 77W
(layover)
LHR-DXB-MEL on QF A380
(dest)
MEL-SYD on QF, was able to SDC to the reconfig'ed A330
(technicality: SDC made this 23.5 hr layover a 24 hr stopover)
SYD-HKG on QF A380 (operated as 2 class, but assigned F seat)
(stopover)
HKG-SFO on CX
(now a stopover after sched. change)
SFO-JFK on AA 321T

Originally, the SFO-JFK was a dummy leg to complete the itin, but a schedule change allowed me to push it back two weeks to when I actually need to fly it.

Thank you US Airways for this amazing 3 stop RTW for 140k+$200 in taxes, for all the PJs and amenity kits, and for the ever incompetent agents that made this all possible!

Just held AA F JFK-LAX. Was planning on booking this trip, but now that Lucky made a whole post on the space I figured I need to get on with it. Will hopefully be booking LAX-NRT in SQ R, and then NRT-HKG.

DOH-AUH isn't available on QR F?
Funny you should mention that. There is a flight, QR2052, that is showing online for revenue, but isn't on BA.com, QR or EF. I asked AA (Hong Kong desk) if they could see it and they said it was unavailable. It's the only QR flight that would work, since the one before allows only a 55 min connection in DOH and the min connection time is 1 hour for anything but D/D. Now AUH may be considered D, but CPT is definitely I.

If I ticket this I assume I'll end up switching things around a few times, pending availability, that it probably won't matter much in the end anyway.

Well that was quick! Updated hold:

CPT-DOH QR J (B787)
DOH-AUH EY J (A320)
AUH-LAX EY F (77L)

Poll: Should I take the AUH-LAX flight right after the connection from DOH, or extend the overnight connection in DOH, fly QR "F" and take the AUH-LAX flight the next day (22.5 hours after landing in AUH)?

Guess it wasn't phantom after all  8)

All depends on you. I personally would spend the day in AUH but you know that already.
