You shouldn't have booked for the infant; you can always add the infant for free in the airport!
+1. Cancel and rebook within 24 hrs.

As has been hashed out many times, it may be with the 450 Avios not to have to arrive at the airport early to ensure that infant is added to the reservation
Life isn't about checking the boxes. Nobody cares.

You can add the infant over the phone with AA. Save the 450 Avios and don't have to show up earlier.

Maybe yes. Maybe no. Happened to me more than once that stupid agents can't/won't add the infant. In fact, that's more common than finding an agent who will do it for you...

So you HUCA. Easy to tell if they properly added the infant. If they added him/her, when you pull up he reservation on AA, it'll show the infants name.

Completely understandable why someone would rather shell out 450 avios than having to call, possibly multiple times.

To each their own. But I've done it numerous times and each time, the first rep that I spoke to was able to add my daughter.

I've added the infant at the check-in kiosk, no need for an agent. (Domestic).

That's as relevant to this discussion as booking CX F to HKG

Both. But infant's name will only show up online when you pull up reservation if the trip is to Canada.

I have two upcoming reservations, one with AC and one with WS. Do you want to call and add my infant for me?

Everything I was saying was related to OP's reservation (Avios onto AA flight). I have no idea what the story is for AC and WS.

I had a time that I almost missed my flight to YYZ with an infant b/c they wouldn't let me on a connecting flight b/c they said it wasn't noted correctly that I paid proper Canadian taxes, they wouldn't fix it for me at the gate...finally I begged them and promised I would call in later and pay the taxes afterward.  I did call and paid for both the previous flight and upcoming return over the phone after I arrived and I still had to pay taxes AGAIN at the airport for the return (again I guess they didn't note it correctly) but just paid it so I wouldn't miss that flight as well.  I would totally rather pay 450 avios AND all taxes ahead never to have that stress again!

There are resorts that don't need seaplanes

True, but those still charge for the boat transfer...

Not all and that's a small amount usually in comparison
