It's a departure tax. Can't be avoided.  But you can take a short flight out of LHR....

Anyway to do the return from LHR and avoid the large fuel charges?
My ek flight is my way a of avoiding them.

Originally I had

LAX-IAH AA J (50K AA) ,IAH-DXB EK F , DXB-MLE EK F (300K AS) booked

But I had some expert flyer alerts and was able to change my flights to

LAX-SFO AS F, SFO-DXB EK F, DXB-MLE EK F , there was a minor time change on my original itinerary so AS made the changes for no charge.

For now I am going to hold on to the LAX-IAH leg and hope there is some sort of change to the itinerary so I can refund the points without fees.. but worst comes to worst ill end up paying to get the points back.

I never used AC or Aeroplan miles, do they expire in 24 months? Are there ways to extend the expiry without flying? I was debating whether to transfer MR points only to LM or split between Aeroplan and LM?  Thanks

Make sure you leave yourself a nice amount of time to connect in CAI, from everything I've heard you can be stuck for a long time when connecting on different tickets.

I hadn’t used them before either.
I transferred from Amex, as well. Instantaneous, if I remember correctly.
Not sure about expiry — Dan had a big DDMS post last year — I think he spelled out what it takes to extend.
Was easy to book in Aeroplan.
I understand that the one thing you can’t do (won’t want to do) is book AC flights, because they charge big time YQ on their own metal.  Doesn’t make sense to me.

Thanks for that.
We are actually spending two nights in Cairo — by design!
One day for pyramids, one day for synagogues.
It has been an intrigue of ours for a long time. We are not getting any younger, and it is the kind of place that we could imagine could change dramatically in terms of security or political stability in the next handful of years.  (Hope I’m wrong about that.)
Plus, there aren’t too many CAI TRs out there....

When I was there the lines were short. I'm guessing it depends on timing, but tourism is down so = airports  empty!

Tourism is way down.
My son went two years ago while in yeshiva, between Purim and Pesach. He said there were very few tourists then — is it even worse now?

I guess the same, I was there a year ago and I did not see that many tourists like I saw during Mubaraks's time.

Nice looking trip!
A friend of mine was just in CAI this past week, after seeing that footage there is no way it's not added to my bucket list.
