4X ATH-TLV on RJ in econ with AA miles.
Not the pinnacle of redemptions, but it was the only sane option for our non-flexible August travel date, and the tickets include free seating and checked luggage.  Plus only an hour and a half layover in Amman and flights on the comfy Embraer 175 both legs.

Best of all, I still got the 10% rebate despite having cancelled my AA card over 6 months ago.

All in 72K AA + $196 for the peakest of peak date.

UA?

How much was the YQ if you would have booked with AC? I have found recently that the AC LH/OS YQ taking into account the 1.34CAD exchange rate is not that bad.

Not sure, I had more Chase URs than Amex points, so I didn't check AC. Maybe next time
looking forward my Österreichische Luftverkehrs flight lol

Interesting, receipt on Delta.com shows a base fare of $120, wonder if that's all AF pays them for it.

Cheapest cash direct flight would have been over $1200 for all 4 tickets, not including checked luggage or seat assignments.  I'm quite point heavy at the moment and have all my other travel needs already booked for now, so I preferred to save the $1000 and use the AA miles.

Not if it's not off-peak.
Besides taxes are more IINM.
But yes generally cheaper. But I've had real struggles booking (online) RJ shorthauls on BA as of late.

BA charges all taxes and fees.
AA fees are in the 50 PP range vs BA's 200 PP.
Qantas is cheaper in milage at 14k but same as ba in fees.
AA wins!

At 5'20" (# @Something Fishy ) he can barely fly J. There has been so much phantom availability that I'm inclined to just leave it. He's never flown on a 747 and if I can get him an upper deck seat that would just be nice. He's flown more J products than me.

Ba would be significantly less

I am aware, but BA would have been 12K + $150 per pax, and Qantas 14K + $150, at which point it would be far less worthwhile.  The AA is in my AA account, whereas I'd have to  also sacrifice flexible points to fill my BA or QF.
