TLV-LCA business on El Al X2 + infant
Peak August date

40K Qantas + $41 total for everyone

Cash would have been $683.78 for all 3 tickets, so I guess about 1.6cpp net of taxes.

Booked the J in hopes of having a better experience at the airport during what will most definitely be a madhouse

TLV-ZRH
El Al business via Qantas (43.8K Qantas): 737-900

I only transfer in to Qantas during promos, so the basis for these points was anywhere from 10-20% bonus, bringing worst case scenario true points used to 39.8K.

Best price roundtrip on same flights on my inflexible dates is $1542 (or about $770 each way), bringing my CPP to about 1.9 net of $34 taxes.

Matmid would have been 935 points plus like $100 taxes!!! $37.4K spend at $40:1 point best case via their legacy US Bank card, not counting the taxes.  SMH.....

ZRH-TLV: ZRH-AMM econ with a 45 min. technical stop at GVA & AMM-TLV business
Royal Jordanian via BA Avios (23.5K Avios, which was about 17K Amex with the 40% bonus) + $150

It was one of the only flights that fit my inflexible schedule (other options were $450 cash for an Austrian Air economy booking or a Pegasus flight via Turkey SAW airport...).  Also happy to get the free luggage, seat selections, and meals with RJ.

This flight required a call to the BA call center, as it didn't appear in searches.  Of note, it did show up in Iberia and Qantas searches, but errored out in both, which led me to think it was phantom.  I called Iberia, and the agent confirmed it was phantom and could not be booked.  I then called AA, who said the same thing.  Then I decided to try calling British as a last resort: success!  Booking was instantly ticketed with an e-ticket number, already picked my seats and all on rj.com!

Also a hint: the AA Israel phone number led me to an agent nearly instantly, literally 0 hold time.  For Iberia I called their Spain number, also 0 hold.  BA I called their U.S. number and no hold whatsoever despite the recording about wait times and things I've seen recently on British forums.

Been having a really hard time with a RJ flight (TLV - ORD J) with AA miles.

I booked one seat for myself no problem.

Then to book a seat for my 7yr old and suddenly there is no more space, so I book both of us a seat in economy (using a different DOB and missing my middle initial to avoid them flagging it).

Some time later another J seat opens (both on AA & BA websites) and I try to hold it for my son (adding a few years to his DOB) but on the last page I get an error and wont let me book and then seat is no longer available. A week later the seat opens up again and same thing happens. Rinse repeat about 3 more times. (My theory is that when it gave me the error it was actually creating some hold but could not get me a record locator. Therefore 6 days later hold expires and seat reopens)

So last week it opens and I call them to book it (again changing the DOB). "For some reason" it wasn't ticketing so she created a hold and gave me a record locator. I canceled the economy seats that I had booked.
On day 6 of the hold I call and ask them to ticket it. That was more than 72 hours ago and the status is still "on request".

Have been playing HUCA with AA and speaking to managers etc and all they say is that all looks ok and its in line for RJ to ticket it.

(There are currently no available J seats on that flight).

Any ideas of what can be done?

EWR-IAD-DEL 302.4k UA

...orrrrrr, book it as a multi city with the first leg in Y for 97.2k :P

So apparently the IAD-DEL Air India leg was phantom. United claimed it was ticketed properly and then an hour later Air India cancelled it. United reinstated, Air India cancelled, United reinstated, Air India cancelled, and I got a migraine.

After the third time, United's Twitter offered to put me on the direct UA flight, which obviously has zero availability for the next seventeen years or thereabouts.

Yessir, please do!

And then the icing on the cake:

Ummm, okay? No idea why they're giving me back 20k miles, but I'll sure as hell take it!
