Booking a flight YYZ-TLV, TLV-NYC suggestions

I would like to book a flight using a Canadian points rewards system (CIBC aventura), I have enough points. But I was wondering what the best way of having a flight with a different return location. I want to leave to Israel from Toronto but return from Israel to NYC. Should I look for the cheapest one that stops over in NYC and just collect my bags there? will my bags forsure be there?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Also, totally unrelated question. If I book a flight with these points can I still somehow cash my ElAl MCO voucher (assuming I fly ElAl)

as far as I know all bags come out in JFK

don't book TLV -NYC --YYZ, its cheaper just TLV -NYC
