I wouldn't go for this unless your redemption is squeeky clean (i.e. they will have no reason to believe you're selling/trading), otherwise it'll work against you in an audit.

It looks like points.com handles the sale.  So my guess would be no, but YMMV.
If the airline bills for it, then I would guess that it would count.  Like buying RDM's or EQM's from CO.

It woldn't work even if BMI charged directly becuiase they are not one of the airlines that Amex reimburses for.
